{Wonderful day. Mother Gueveneuz is really tired and her knees
are not working anymore.
Her mind is not very clear either. Hopefully some hidden
treasures let see the high vitality. It was a great pleasure to
be reunited with silence in Samode, the first place in India
where we had that luxury.}

multi-centenaires. J'espère revenir un jour.
{What a beautiful discovery is the fort standing over the palace
of Samode. Nice walk with Sumit, on the way back we talked about
the trees surounding the fort, I've finally been able to enjoy
the beauty of the henne-tree, and to rest a bit under the
multi-centuries banyan. I hope to come back one day."

Was great to met Sumit and stay at his fort. That part of
Rajastan is a nice and quiet area, i loved it. Sumit showed us
one of the cool hickes around the fort right as we arrived, we
passed tempel and great landscape. Thanks for that! Also enjoyed
the sunset from up there with some other cs-members,
guitarplaying and samosas.
One of my great stays in india!

Für einen schönen Moment der Stille bedanken sich Vater und Sohn
{father and son say thank you for a beautiful moment of silence}
- Rodrik Kussecorm. Germany. 22 August 2009
brilliant clear day with miles and miles visible. Surprised that
the inner area is clearly not an armed/military purpose, whilst
the
rest is evidently of defensive intention. A hide-away for the
big palace below, then? How many stories lie here untold? In the
future...preserve what there is, rather than enhance or change
it. A history of the fort (when built, who designed it, which
military
strategist etc., etc., any battles etc.
- Chris & Maria Mauton. Ealing, London W13 0LD. Visited
the fort 10th February 1998
A lovely day with light cloud so not too hot. A very peaceful
place and a good place for my wife to paint from. A most
Interesting fort and surprising to find such a high quality
inner part. Presumably a safe refuge if needed for the
inhabitants of the
palace below. I have read somewhere of an underground passage
connecting the two - does this exist?
- John & Sonia Word. England. Visited the fort on 14
February 1998 (St.Valentine's Day)
It is good to see that one of the old monuments is being kept in
good order. In due course it would make a spectacular site for a
hotel if it can be converted.
- John Fulton. UK.
This was very interesting to see how this fort operated. We
enjoyed it very much.
- Stephen. AUST.
It is wonderful. The air is clear and plenty of sky. I hope you
succeed with your project.
- Michelle Ali. Australia ACT.
Well worth the climb of 376 steps and the uphill track beyond
them. The official guide gave me a wonderful tour of the Fort
which was much appreciated and the views from the four turrets
were stunning. Lovely cool breezes by the Castle after the hot
mid-afternoon climb.
- Christopher Kunslaw, Halifax, England. 14/02/98 (St.Valentine's
Day)
I had a great experience staying at Fort Samode with Sumit as my
host. I did not arrive until late in the night and Sumit made
extra efforts to pick me up and take me to the Fort; it
definitely was an experience getting there! Sumit was an
excellent host
making sure I saw real India, not just the tourist things - we
saw the sunrise over the mountains from the Fort top and had fun
exploring the local village - seeing secret historical/religious
sites, eating delicious local food and meeting very friendly
people! If
you are near Jaipur make sure to meet Sumit and experience his
memorable hospitality :)
- Sarah Bourne. Australia.
We 3 ladies from Switzerland enjoyed so much to visit your fort
in your company Vishnou. And we wish you all the best for
your undertaking and want to sustain you as your government does
too.
- Aglelte Gutmann. Switzerland.
With my best wishes for the future hotel. And thank you for the
help of Vishnou in visiting the steep parts of his fort!
- Christiane Hiaitiu & Luichele Refaruy. Switzerland.

We found it worthwhile climbing up more than 376 steps to reach
this nice and interesting spot. Particularly we were happy to
see the effort which the master of the fort Vishnua has placed.
This is a nice place which one may visit more than one time.
- Ursula + Diete Bunleifn. Kiel, Germany. 27 Feb. 1998

Vishnu: Thank you for the tour of the fort and the background
information about the history of the fort, miniature painting,
and the beliefs of Brahman Hindus. I enjoyed the conversation
and benefitted from you insights. I wish you best of luck with
your plans for turning the fort into a hotel. I also admire your
dedication to your home town, to miniature painting, and to your
heritage. Please stay in touch. I hope to see you again. Upon my
next visit to India, I would love to stay in your hotel. It
feels quiet & pleasant here. Much regards,

it is ready.
- Bob Blair. 1 Palace Road, Llandaff, Cardiff CF5 2AF,
U.K. 25/3/98
A beautiful palace inside an extraordinary work of military
engineering explained clearly by my kind guide. This is a
remarkable and impressive place. I do hope that any
modifications to create a hotel leave the character here
unchanged. Good luck with your plans and thank you for the tour.
- Peter Fox Linton (London). 28/8/98
I very much enjoyed my visit to the fort, but in 40 C a relaxing
bar would be very welcome. A hotel would be a good idea if
suitable transport can be arranged. Namaste!
- Flintt (London). 02/04/98
This is just what I expected a proper India fort to look like.
Very hospitable too. Interesting to note it has its own
botanical garden. Not the sort of thing you can find at the
local estate agent. However, we will persevere. Thank you for
your wonderful hospitality.
- Adam + Clove Gilchrist. 5th April 1998
From the guided tour we could very well imagine how the castle
will be in a few years time. We hope that you'll keep the
courtyard as it is! Thank you for the tour.
-Sibylle Hanype. 8.4.98
Ideally located, blessed is the person who has the pastime to
visit this fort free from the turmoil and self-contained in
drinking water without the aid of modern means of power and
above all, the site is unparalled to entertain human heart and
mind alike.
- Vaishali (Retired Additional District Session Judge,
B18, B. Todarmal Marg, Bani Park, Jaipur-16.) 8/4/98
We visited the fort today and feel really grateful for the love
and affection accorded to us by the staff here who deserve
commendation and we feel confident that in their hands, the fort
would be protected as our ancient heritage. The guide excelled
in his devotion to serve towards promotion of tourism to this
place.
- Durgadas, B.E.(Civil)
We visit the Fort today and we like the silence and feel cool
wind between the walls.

The idea of an original fort & sleeping quarters is a very good
idea. Especially for the young back-packers. You will have to
build a good road for 4-wheel drive Jeeps. I wish you every
success.

This is a very good place with very good people.

Well worth the climb - good luck with your plans!
- B. T. Johni, Alan Heather & Margaret A. Didison.
Sumit is my favorite Indian! He is bright and funny and
knowledgeable and open and a wonderful host. I stayed overnight
at his fort and it was a lovely experience and also joined him
at his cousin's sister's wedding. There were really good peas!
He lost the
Germans initially, but then found them, so it was a great
evening.
- Diane Caldwel
Sumit met me in Samod and we walked up to his fort-an
awe-inspiring setting. Picking up a snack from the village on
the way, we ate under a banyan tree and talked non-stop for
hours. The fort is wrapped in silence and serenity. Sumit was
the perfect host. In the morning we walked to the temple. when I
wanted to chat, Sumit was responsive, when I wanted to be alone
and read, he gave me my space. he was thoughtful and gracious
and I spent my time there smiling!
- Kerri Rogers. Australia
It is a very nice place for find to myself. Maybe we will come

I hope it stays that way. Thanks for a very special visit.
- Bishakha Datta & Gautam Ojha. Bombay. 30.12.2000
I thought it was a mistake. But I knocked the door. What the
hell somebody asking money. This was a mistake. But half an hour
after, I would like to make this mistake again & again. Believe
me this is a place of solitude and this is real 14th Century
Fort in 21st Century.

didn't want to come but now I’m glad that I came. I would like
to know about the history.
- Anne-Marie Downey
The fort - the view & the structure are most fascinating. Once
restored & developed, it has the potential to be a wonderful
site. I just hope that the ruggedness & the "old" feel to it
would not be lost. A beautiful romantic place.
